2. The Data We Collect About You

Personal data means any information that can identify an individual. We may collect, use, and store different kinds of personal data about you, including:

  • Identity Data: First name, last name, and date of birth (crucial if tutoring students under 18).

  • Contact Data: Email address, phone number, and physical address for home-visit lessons.

  • Student Data: Guitar skill level, musical preferences, equipment logs, lesson notes, and progress tracking.

  • Financial Data: Invoicing history and payment status. We use third-party providers to issue single-click payment links; we do not collect, view, or store your raw payment card details.

  • Technical & Usage Data: Your IP address, browser type, and how you use our website.

3. How We Collect Your Data

We use different methods to collect data from and about you, including:

  • Direct Interactions: You give us your details by filling in our website contact form, booking a lesson via phone/text, subscribing to a newsletter, or communicating with us directly.

  • Automated Technologies: As you interact with our website, we may automatically collect Technical Data about your equipment and browsing actions via cookies.

4. How We Use Your Personal Data

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we use your data to:

  • Provide Tuition Services: To schedule lessons, track student progress, manage timetables, and maintain the student-tutor relationship internally.

  • Process Payments: To issue flexible 4-week lesson block invoices and track your payment status.

  • Communicate Updates: To send direct lesson reminders, timetable changes, or follow-up notes.

  • Marketing: If you opt in, we may send you occasional updates about new lesson slots, workshops, or guitar resources. You can opt out at any time.

5. Data Sharing & Third-Party Processors

We do not sell your personal data. We only share your data with trusted cloud providers and operational tools strictly necessary to run our studio and protect student bookings:

  • Internal Administration & Storage (Google Workspace): We store our student roster, contact data, timetable coordinates, and lesson logs within a secure, business-tier Google Workspace account (Google Sheets and Google Drive). Access is strictly restricted internally via multi-factor authentication, and data is processed in accordance with UK GDPR security frameworks.

  • Payment Gateways (Tide Banking): We use Tide to generate secure invoicing paylinks. When an invoice is due, your contact information and block booking details are shared with Tide to generate a friction-free payment link.

  • Legal Obligations: We may share data if required to do so by law enforcement, accounting requirements, or regulatory bodies.

6. Data Security and Retention

We have put in place appropriate technical and operational security measures to prevent your data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed without authorisation. Access to our master Google Workspace database is heavily restricted: tutors only have visibility over their active teaching schedule, while financial and master contact data is kept locked behind administrative permissions.

We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Inactive client profiles are routinely audited and permanently scrubbed from our systems.

7. Children’s Privacy

Because we teach guitar to students of all ages, we frequently process the data of children under 18. If a student is a minor, we will only collect their name and age with the explicit consent of their parent or legal guardian. All direct invoicing, calendar coordination, and administrative communication will be directed exclusively to the parent or guardian.

8. Your Legal Rights

Under data protection laws (including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act), you have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data.

  • Request correction or erasure of your personal data.

  • Object to or restrict the processing of your data.

  • Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent to process your data.

If you wish to exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@andersonguitartuition.co.uk.

If you are based in the UK, you also have the right to make a complaint at any time to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for data protection issues. We would, however, appreciate the chance to deal with your concerns before you approach the ICO, so please contact us directly first.
